Life is Choices
A journey into the power of choice. By Lee Foulis

“If you work hard at your job, you’ll make a living.
If you work hard on yourself – you’ll make a fortune.”
Foreword
Your life has always proceeded from the choices you make. These choices have ranged from what to wear, what to eat, whether to exercise or not and, who to marry.
All your choices have impacted your life, whether you are aware of it or not and, all these choices were your choices — no one else’s.
“It is very important that you understand that you are a choice-making individual… That is a difficult thing for people to get because they are raised to believe ‘I can’t help the way I feel.’ You are the product of all the choices you have made up until this moment…”
What appears to be insignificant choices, over time, have created your habits and your habits have shaped your life. The good, the bad and the ugly.
One day you wake up and wonder why your life is not the way you would have liked it to be; you are overweight, your relationships are unsatisfactory or your job sucks. You are unhappy.
How did you end up here? Let’s look at the choices you made along the journey, and you will have a clearer understanding of your role in this thing we call “life”.
Once you understand how to make better choices and make them, your life and your happiness will steadily improve. You will never again wonder why life has treated you so ‘unfairly’. You will understand that the power lies within you, in the quality of the choices you make every day.
This book is a collection of thought-provoking entries; it is not a lengthy discussion and was never intended to be. My objective is to make you think about your choices and their power. My hope is that you will change your life by deliberately changing your choices.
Note: Please use the space at the bottom of each page to think about that particular entry. Write down your thoughts, insights and your new decisions. Revisit them from time to time and see how you are doing. Notice how you have progressed, grown and become more confident.
“Remember, just knowing the truth is not enough. Because just knowing the truth without living it is the same as not knowing it.”
From a very young age we are told what to do and how to do it. Told by parents, the church, teachers and various authority figures.
Hence, we are programmed to obey rules made by others. Why these rules were made is a discussion for another book. However, what is important here are the consequences of all the rules and concomitant expectations.
The consequences for me were two failed marriages, an emotionally abusive relationship, countless unfulfilling jobs (they paid the bills but little else) and, spending the better part of my life as a people pleaser, doing what others wanted and expected of me. I didn’t realise I had a choice.
Reflect on this entry
Which truth am I aware of, but have failed to face?
(E.g., I know I should watch less TV, eat better, tell my boss/partner how I really feel.)
What is this truth and how could facing it enhance my life?
Life is Choices. Choose with intention. Live with purpose.
